Immersing oneself in Sauna is an
ancient practice of cleansing.
The flame’s heat invites the body to settle, while the fierce Atlantic reminds us to breathe, trust, and not freak out.
-
Sessions are 1 hour.
We recommend taking a few breaks throughout your sweat. We love the 1:1 protocol. If you're sweating for 8 minutes then you're cooling down for 8 minutes.
-
Bathing suit
Towels (we'd recommend two. One for the bench, the other for drying off after)
Water bottle
Sandals/water shoes
No bathrooms on site
Leave phone in the car, unless you want to snap photos and videos. We get it, Nature is a Stunner.
-
Altær is heated by a wood-burning stove. Temperatures vary with the fire, airflow, and conditions, creating an authentic sauna experience fueled by red oak and tended by hand.
-
Children are welcomed! We ask that the caretaker of anyone under 18 signs the waiver form. Children must take more breaks than adults, meaning rest outside sauna, plenty of water and snacks.
Sauna Information
-
Your sauna facilitator will welcome you and help you settle in with guided breathwork, song, storytelling, aromatherapy,
and your choice of sound: a playlist on our speaker, or nature’s polyphony - birds, waves, wind, and stove who all make room for each other to sing.
-
Expect a shared sauna with room for conversation, quiet, music, and your body as your own time keeper.
Every group has its own rhythm. Meet your neighbors, enjoy the company, or settle into your own space.
-
The water is always changing. The beach may be rocky, and conditions can shift with the weather.
Check conditions before entering the water, take your time, and respect the elements. In the event of inclement weather, follow any updates or instructions from Altær.
You can always email us with questions: thankyoualtaer@gmail.com
-
Wear your bathing suit and arrive in comfortable clothing. There are no bathrooms on site for changing. We'd recommend bringing two towels. One for the bench and one for drying afterwards.
Leave jewelry at home. Metal can become hot in the sauna, and fewer distractions make it easier to settle into the experience.
Come comfortable. Leave a little room to unwind.
What to Expect
-
Drink water before and after your session. Heat asks something of the body, so arrive hydrated and keep water close. We'd recommend electrolytes and/or pickles.
-
Slow down. Take a breath. Let your body find its own rhythm in the heat. There’s nothing to force and nowhere else to be.
-
Try not to impose your expectations onto Nature. Trust. Slow down to close the gap between your human task list and Nature.
-
Take breaks whenever you need them. Rest between rounds, listen to your body, and leave room for the experience to unfold.

Studies on Benefits of Sauna for Physical and Mental Health
Longevity & Cardiovascular Health
Based on data from observational, interventional, and mechanistic studies, sauna bathing has emerged as a way to increase lifespan and improve overall health. Activating our Heat Shock Proteins enables strength in your cells which then builds resistance to stress and damage.
Inflammation & Athletic Performance
Sauna Bathing simulates moderate intensity workouts, this can improve physical fitness and athletic performance by increasing endurance and maintaining or promoting gains in muscle mass. Many of us know that iInflammation occurs after minor injuries or infections. But we often overlook the effects of chronic inflammation which occurs on the cellular level due to toxins or other emotional stressors. Sauna bathing reduces these inflammations and therefore improves overall health. See the studies below.
Cognitive & Mental Health
There are two key players in cognitive functioning, norepinephrine enhances focus and attention, while prolactin promotes myelin growth, which allows the brain to function faster. In a study involving women who participated in 20-minute sessions in a dry sauna twice a week experienced a 86 percent increase in norepinephrine and a 510 percent increase in prolactin after the session.
